There’s packing for a trip, and then there’s preparing for one, and if you know me, you know I take the second part just as seriously as the first. Before we head anywhere, these are the five things I do before going on vacation.

5 Things I do before going on vacation

It’s not about being high-maintenance (okay, maybe a little); it’s about walking onto that plane feeling like the best version of myself. Here’s exactly what I do before every trip. I also added a new one that I have never done before.

1. HydraFacial — for the glow

This is such a game changer for me. A HydraFacial does something to your skin that is honestly hard to explain until you try it. It just glows. Your skin looks so hydrated like youve been drinking enough water and getting the right amout of sleep. And best of all, my makeup goes on so much better after I get one. Everything goes on my skin differently when it’s been properly treated.

My esthetician also does dermaplaning and a lymphatic face massage, both of which are a must for me. Dermaplaning clears away dead skin cells, peach fuzz, and buildup so your skin looks even smoother under makeup, and the lymphatic massage actually de-puffs your face. I try to time mine about a week before we leave so my skin has a little time to settle in.

2. Mani-pedi — timed perfectly

I’ve learned to time this one about two to three days before we leave. Long enough that everything is fully set with a fresh mani and pedi.

3. Hair touch-up

I get my hair touched up because fresh hair is the best feeling. I want to show up feeling my best and not like I’ve been growing out my roots since March. Vacation photos are forever, after all.

4. New outfits

Okay, I will not apologize for this one. Is there anything better than packing a suitcase full of new things you are genuinely excited to wear? I think not. I always pick up at least a few new pieces before a trip. It makes the whole packing process actually fun instead of stressful, and it gives me something to look forward to when I open my suitcase.

5. I Had a Color Analysis Done

This is new to me, and honestly, I wish I had done it sooner. I recently had a color analysis done, which is basically a professional consultation where an expert determines which colors work best for your specific skin tone, hair, and eyes.

If you’ve never heard of it, a color analysis looks at your skin’s undertone, your natural coloring, and contrast level to figure out which “palette” or season you fall into (think Warm Autumn, Cool Winter, that kind of thing). From there, you get a custom fan of colors that are the most flattering on you specifically.

This really helped put outfits together for this trip. Which colors to pack and which ones to leave behind.

Have you ever had a color analysis done? I would love to hear about your experience. Drop it in the comments below. And if you’ve been curious, but haven’t tried it yet, tell me that too. I have thoughts.
