Fourth of July Fruit Star Sparklers

Jump to Recipe

These Forth of July Fruit Star Sparklers and the perfect patriotic dish. I mean we don’t have to single out just the Fourth of July. Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day will work too. Heck, just any summer get-together makes this a fun healthy side dish for both kids and adults.

Fourth of July Fruit Sparklers Star

What you will need to make Fourth Of July Fruit Star Sparklers:

  • Star Cookie Cutter I used a smaller star (1.6″)
  • Ripe Watermelon
  • Fresh Blueberries
  • Bambo Skewers (I used 9.75″)

How to pick the right Watermelon (Ripe)

Picking the right watermelon can be tricky. You want the ripest watermelon you can get. Especially if you are going to be using it right away.

  • Look for an orange-creamy field spot.
  • If the field spot is white that’s a sign that the melon is not quite ripe.
  • Look for a watermelon that is heavy for its size. This usually means it will be sweeter and will have more water content.
  • Smooth, dull skin. Not shinny. I know, you probably thought the opposite of this like I did.
  • The watermelon should have a deep hollow sound when you thump the rind with your hand, similar to a knock on the door.

How to make Fruit Sparklers

  1. Cut the watermelon into thick round slices. You will want the slices’ thickness to match your cookie cutter’s depth. If your cookie cutter is 1″, slice it into 1″ pieces.
  2. Lay each slice flat on a cutting board. Use the star cookie cutter to cut stars from the watermelon slices. You can usually get several from each piece depending on your star’s size.
  3. Assemble the fruit star sparklers by first adding 3 blueberries and then the watermelon star. Continue until you reach the top and end with the watermelon star. I ended up with 3 stars on each skewer.
  4. Place the fruit sparklers on a serving tray. Cover and refrigerate until ready to enjoy.
