Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

Jump to Recipe

Biscuits and Gravy Casserole is a comfort food my whole family loves.

My grandmother taught me how to make homemade gravy when I was newly married. I remember calling her over the phone and she talked me through the recipe. And just like that, I was making homemade biscuits and gravy. Now I make Biscuits and Gravy Casserole for my family. Now let me say this isn’t one of my healthy recipes. Nope, not even close. But they are oh so good. You can still lead a healthy lifestyle and still have foods that you love. Remember I what I always say, balance and in moderation.

This Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

This Biscuits and Gravy Casserole is perfect for a weekend breakfast or it can even be made for dinner. This is also great for Christmas breakfast or brunch. If you are feeding a lot of people you may want to double the recipe.

How to make Biscuits and Gravy Casserole

  • Start by Preheating oven to 375ºF. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Open a can of Pillsbury Grands Biscuits. I like Pillsbury Southern Homestyle or Flaky Layers Original Biscuits. (16.3 oz). Cut each biscuit into fourths and set aside.
  • Brown the sausage in a large skillet or cast iron skillet over medium heat. I love using my cast iron skillet for this recipe, but it’s definitely not a must. Break up sausage with a wooden spoon and cook until no longer pink. Do not drain the skillet.
  • Sprinkle flour over cooked sausage to make a roux and cook for 1 minute or until flour is dissolved.
  • Gradually stir in milk and stir constantly.
  • Season with sea salt and fresh ground pepper. We love pepper so I season pretty generously.
  • Continue stirring as the mixture starts to thicken. Reduce heat if necessary.

  • Once the gravy is thickened pour into baking dish.
  • Layer the biscuit pieces on top of gravy.
  • Cook for 20-22 minutes or until biscuits are golden brown.

Hello delicious! When I make this there aren’t any leftovers. I am not kidding. We eat the entire casserole.
